Could Vitamin D help prevent the Flu/colds??

A new study, from researchers in Queen Mary University, London has been published in The British Medical Journal. This new evidence shows that taking extra vitamin D could protect against colds, flu and other respiratory infections.

A review was performed looking at 25 clinical trials in 14 countries. They found that the effects were strongest for people with very low levels of vitamin D.

Vitamin D is synthesised when the body is exposed to sunlight and Many people, especially in cold, grey climates like Ireland, are deficient in this essential vitamin.

The case for universal vitamin D supplements, or food fortification ‘is now undeniable’ concluded Benjamin Jacobs of the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital.
