What does the WHO report on processed meats mean for you?

The World Health Organisation recently released a report investigating the link
between consumption of red and processed meats and development of cancer. Red
meat is classed as unprocessed meat such as beef, lamb and pork. Processed meat has
been transformed by methods such as curing, smoking or salting etc.

So what does this mean for you? Red meat is classed as a good dietary source of
iron, protein and Vitamin B12 but if you eat a large amount, it might be an idea to
reduce your intake or alternate with other protein sources such as chicken or fish.
If your intake of processed meats exceeds 90g a day, the WHO report recommends
this amount to 70g or less. There is no need to be particularly worried if you eat a
balanced diet. As with most things, everything in moderation!
